Swedish Flatweave Rug Rollakan Signed, 1950-1970
About the Item
220 x 144 cm is the size of this Swedish kilim rug known as Röllakan, handmade with linen warp and wool weft in the Southern province of Sweden. Swedish flat weave is a flat weaving technique to make carpets. The technique has been used since the early eighteenth century in Sweden and is seen as typically Swedish, although this technique was born between the Neolithic and the Metal Age probably contemporary with the art of weaving. A typical Swedish kilim will have a folklore pattern, and this is particularly interesting because it invites us to decipher it. The decoration is truly original, as in the field of the carpet without frames there is a triple theory of small rosettes, each of which bears a different inscription to be interpreted. The same inscriptions are scattered across the carpet field. Very amusing, the game has begun!.
