Hand knotted in wool and silk originating from one of our most reputed partner looms in Nepal, this contemporary 4x6 rug from the European Collection by Rug & Kilim draws inspiration from Austrian Art Deco rug styles and nods to the Vienna Secession movement in the creation of this affectionately dubbed “Piano” design. The silk’s natural sheen lends an intriguing sense of movement through alternating degrees of luster in the colorway, fabulously complementing the varied hues of beige-brown, off-white, pink, blue, and green with a sense of movement through a play of the light—with more subtle light-and-dark areas of the piece from the material blend. It’s uncommon that such a piece with primarily antique European rug influences should enjoy such a distinctive mid-century and modern rug appeal, offering a repetition negotiating between soothing and engaging with a complementary transitional colorway.
