Zakaria rugs is searching to restore the commitment to handcrafted goods, which has been neglected through mass-production and unsustainable consumption over the last decades. Measures: 300 x 200 cm.
Collaborating with multi-disciplinary artists, Zakaria Rugs wants to re-propose the rug as a medium for expression and innovation. The exploration of new perspectives, dialogues and cultures reaches a synthesis between tradition and innovation, between artisans and contemporary art.
Our goal is to translate visual conceptual ideas into high-end durable rugs, thinking about sustainability and environmental impact of ever step of the production process. Zakaria Rugs are being made using only natural materials and acid-free dyes to embrace the significant beauty only handmade rugs can convey.
‘Saana' is based on a painting made by Saana Mirzaie. Having lost years of her life to mental illness, Mirzaie discovered that immersing herself in drawing and painting allowed her the outlet she needed. Her goal is to tell the story of her tumultuous life. The Saana rug symbolises that Mirzaie is finally healthy, and reminds the brave artist that her decision to follow her heart has proved to be good.
