Traditional European inspired beige handmade rug by Doris Leslie Blau.
Size: 11'7" × 22'3" (353 × 678 cm).
This contemporary rug inspired by traditional European design is hand-knotted in wool and silk. The carpet features an all-over design of elaborate, scrolling stylized imagery of pine cones, vines, flowers and various abstractions in a gold-yellow hue against a field of abrashed hunter green gradually fading into a lighter shade from one end of the carpet to the other. While the design is ornate enough at times to evoke certain aspects of French Savonnerie rugs, there is also a vague Oriental feel about the contemporary carpet, with a hint of European Deco in the free-flowing abstraction of the patterns. The result is an intriguing amalgam of multiple weaving traditions.
