Armchair Model Pedro by Carl Gustaf Hiort in Coral-Red Fabric, Finland, 1950s

About the Item

Finnish lounge armchair model Pedro designed by Carl Gustaf Hiort af Ornäs for Puunveisto Oy in Finland, 1950s. This elegant armchair model by the Finnish architect Carl Gustaf Hiort features an extraordinary sculptural design mainly achieved of course by its curviness that defined the design of the 1950s in the Nordic countries. The chair's seat, backrest, and armrests are all formed from a single piece that has an organic, outward-curving look that is highly inviting and stylish. Complimenting the design is the beautiful original red-coral colored fabric in which the armchair and removable seat cushion are upholstered. What else is unique about this particular piece is the fact that it features the original manufacturer's stamp as well as the designer’s signature underneath the seat. Carl Gustaf Hiort's seating designs have gradually become more recognized worldwide and hence today are considered a 20th century Finnish design classic. This piece is no doubt an iconic piece of furniture that would be a welcome addition to any home.
