Armchair 'Type Called “Friar”' Wood, Textil, Spain, 20th Century
About the Item
This type of seat was very common in Spain despite its Italian origin. The typology was introduced in the 16th century, and remained as usual in Spanish furniture during the following centuries, becoming really popular in the 19th and 20th centuries in fashionable pieces influenced by past styles. It has a back and seat upholstered in red fabric, with studs, and carved decorations on arms, back, waist and chambranas. Remember outstanding examples such as several of the nineteenth century preserved in the Museo Lázaro Galdiano in Madrid, etc.
