Arts & Crafts Pair of Armchairs in Oak and Braided Straw

About the Item

Pair of armchairs, oak, braided straw, Europe, 1920s These chairs are designed during the Arts & Crafts period in Europe approximately around the twenties and designed by an experienced craftsman whose identity is unfortunately not yet known. The design resonates with the Viennese Secessionist Movement, including the work by design masters, among others, Hans Vollmer, Wilhelm Karl Schmidt, and Koloman Moser. At that time, Prag-Rudniker Korbwarenfabrik dominated the production of rush furniture, a company that established itself in the Czech town of Rudnik in 1877. This chair is well-proportioned featuring clear lines and excellent detailing. The oak framework revolves around a crescent shape with evenly spaced rectangular slats defining the rhythm. The seat is executed in braided straw, which gives the unit a graphic and textured surface. Noteworthy detail are the cut-out 'cross motif' in the top line. Please note that this item is in good condition with some traces of age and use. For further details, we encourage you to reach out to our team of design specialists.
