Brutalist Style Armchairs

About the Item

These 1970s-era Brutalist arm chairs were made in Budapest Hungary. During the 1960s and 1970s, Hungarian furniture makers were encouraged to create simple, modern designs that could be mass-produced. They were also intended to compete with Western European designs and thereby show the vigor and creativity of the Socialist system. Luxurious materials and complex construction techniques or ornamentation was unacceptable. Consequently, many of the designs substituted quite daring and dramatic from. This daring often expressed itself in a Brutalist vocabulary, which made a dramatic break with all previous design schemes. These chairs are made from solid poplar wood and re-upholstered in green velvet. They are quite comfortable and make a lively addition to any contemporary room. Price is for EACH chair.
