Cais Armchair by Filipe Ramos for GESTU in Brazilian Freijo hardwood

About the Item

The Cais armchair draws inspiration from the traditional vernacular design of wooden docks located alongside the water. The large cushion is securely positioned between two wooden cylinders, with a rope spanning the entire piece from one side to the other. This rope not only holds the cushion in place but also defines the angle and crease between the seat and the backrest. Crafted using solid Freijó wood panels, the armchair is available in a variety of fabric options. Additionally, it can be customized with other wood types such as Cumarú, Tauari, and more. " The Cais Armchair, designed by Filipe Ramos for luxury brand GESTU, is inspired by the shape of wooden docks. The cushion is secured between two large wooden posts, with a rope spanning the chair from side to side, holding the cushion in place and accentuating the angle between the seat and backrest. The Cais Armchair is crafted in solid Brazilian Freijó wood and can be ordered with a variety of textiles and wood species. "

Pair of scissor armchairs, Brazilian hardwood and fabric, Brazil, circa 1950 These exceptionally rare armchairs from Brazil embraces the quintessential Brazilian ethos of the 1950s. The design bears the beauty of Brazil's natural environment through its raw, constructive layout and the skillful use of a local, solid wooden material. The construction is marked by well-defined geometry, logical proportions, and visible constructivist elements. Characterized by simplicity, clarity and absence of ornamentation, this framework is exemplary of architectural minimalism. Upholstered in a delicate patterned fabric in green and white, it beautifully complements the wooden elements. The material use, woodworking, and the overall composition strongly resemblance the designs by Studio de Arte Palma, co-founded by Lina Bo Bardi, Pietro Maria Bardi, and Giancarlo Palanti...

Available right now, this very Brazilian Modern armchair pair in hardwood and gray suede designed by Joaquim Tenreiro in the sixties is gorgeous! The model is called “Concha” (Shell in Portuguese). The armchairs feature a hardwood structure upholstered in gray velvet and four toothpick legs. The back (the “shell”) is curved and ends in the arm rests. What makes these armchairs so special is the beautiful design iconic from Joaquim Tenreiro (Publications attached also). The original upholstery was also suede so we decided to do something similar. The furniture set photo showcases the armchairs with the matching “Concha” sofa (sold separately) and a Jean Gillon Rodeio...
