Charred Chunky Chair with Bouclé fabric
About the Item
Chunky square members are glued up and joined using wooden tenons, before being shaped using chainsaw and chisel. To created the charred appearance, the resultant shape is torched and polished using the soot before finishing the surface using a natural oil-wax finish. If a natural or bleached finish is chosen, the wood is carefully sanded before finishing.
Every piece leaving the studio is designed and handcrafted by Rutger van der Zee, a furniture maker who earned the title of master craftsman from the Austrian woodworkers guild.
Working with selected native woods and using a wide range of techniques, Rutger is committed to carrying woodworking into a globally wired but physically disconnected world. Creating new designs to inspire an enduring appreciation of the real world in the people it will serve.
