Chippendale Tiger Maple Armchair with Spanish Feet American Circa 1760

About the Item

A pierced splat cupid's bow crested Chippendale great chair. This imposing Chippendale arm-chair is made of maple and figured maple. The profile of the crest and its pierced pattern suggest Rhode Island or Connecticut as an origin, as does the elongated and flattened double ball front stretcher. The design is a transition between the William & Mary with its carved front Spanish feet and the lighter look of the Chippendale. The chair has gained a mellow amber-toned varnished finish over the years. The over-all proportions and flaring silhouette of this chair's back, remind us of the beauty of fine American Colonial craftsmanship.
