Early 20th Century Pair Armchairs solid Ebonized Walnut restored new upholstered

About the Item

Two Renaissance armchairs in solid ebonized walnut , restored and new upholstered with precious Toile De Jouy fabric. Toile de Jouy, (French: “fabric of Jouy”, )also called Jouy Print, cotton or linen printed with designs of landscapes and figures for which the 18th-century factory of Jouy-en-Josas, near Versailles, Fr., was famous. The Jouy factory was started in 1760 by a Franco-German, Christophe-Philippe Oberkampf. His designs were printed originally from woodblocks alone but from 1770 from copperplates as well, this innovation having been anticipated in England in 1757. English printed cottons of similar subjects (such as those of Old Ford, c. 1760–80) had a parallel development and achieved standards as high as Jouy; the term toile de Jouy has come to be used loosely for the Jouy type of printed cottons produced in England and at other French factories. A strong, if limited, vogue for them in upholstery and wallpaper continued. Measures cm: H 37 \ 76 x L 79 x D 82.

Exceptional pair armchairs, all futurism originals, with footrest, 1920s Fortunato Depero style having original Futurist velvet upholstery still usable. In consideration that the seats have been recovered in the area of Trento-Rovereto, it is possible that the same have been designed by Depero himself and produced by “Casa d’Arte Futurista” (House of Futurist Art) in Rovereto. Measures cm: amchairs H84/40 W64 D75 - pouf H43 W43 D43 About Fortunato Depero From: "The Art Post Blog del 13 Luglio 2013" Fortunato Depero (1892–1960) was an Italianfuturist painter, writer, sculptor and graphic designer. It was with Balla in 1915 that he wrote the manifesto Ricostruzione futurista dell’universo (“Futurist Reconstruction of the Universe”) which expanded upon the ideas introduced by the other futurists. In 1919 Depero founded the “Casa d’Arte Futurista” (House of Futurist Art) in Rovereto, which specialised in producing toys, tapestries and furniture in the Futurist style. In 1925 he represented the futurists at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes (International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts). The 1928 saw Depero move to New York City, where he experienced a degree of success, doing costumes for stage productions and designing covers for magazines including MovieMaker, The New Yorkerand Vogue, among others. In 1930 he returned to Italy. In 1930 he returned to Italy and began a fruitful collaboration with Campari, and few people know that the bottle of Campari Soda was designed by Depero. The famous single-dose bottle of a truncated cone was designed in 1932 by Fortunato Depero and has remained as such, without undergoing redesign or adaptation to our times. This is a piece of futurism still alive, has succeeded in bringing the art in life.
