Enzo Mari 'Po' Dining Chair in Natural Japanese Cedar and Steel for Hida
For centuries, famed Hida artisans in Gifu prefecture have played a role in Japan's woodworking culture, crafting iconic bentwood furniture from sustainable local forests. Established in 1920, Hida Sangyo builds upon the Japanese heritage of craftsmanship and sustainability from their headquarters in Gifu, which remains one of Japan's leading furniture production areas. In addition to offering iconic designs from midcentury masters like Sori Yanagi and Enzo Mari, Hida produces contemporary creations from international designers such as Atsuhiko Misawa and atelier oï.
Part of Hida's Mari Collection, the 'Po' is crafted in Japanese Cedar wood that has been heat treated through a proprietary method developed by Hida. The result is a strengthened piece of Cedar while maintaining the unique and dynamic characteristics of the natural element. The legs, as well as the supports for the backrests, are executed in steel tubing. The final product displays the historic Japanese tradition and craft, interpreted in a modern sense.
Price per item. Available to order in unlimited quantities in choice of natural or dark stain, as well as with or without arms - please see our separate listings. This listing is for the 'Po' chair without arms and in a natural stain. Please note that the wood's grain, color and features vary from item to item due to the organic nature of the material.
