Fine Pair of Period George III Carved and Gilt Armchairs

About the Item

A rare and exceptional pair of George III gilt armchairs. English made in the Louis XVI style with oval backs. The carved crest rail with center rosettes, the fluted sloping arms with carved acanthus leaves on the ends. The curved seat rails with carved rosettes, raised on square tapering fluted legs with shaped feet. Upholstered in a peach on ecru tone chinoiserie damask like fabric on the manches, backs and seats. Brass nail head trim. Measures: Height 38 1/2", width 24", depth 19", seat height 20" Condition: There are some overall chips and wear to the gilt finish as well as a refitted chip to one of the front chair aprons. Please see photos), one chair with some spots on the back, the other chair with a few tiny spots on the seat however the Pair presenting very well with the frames being quite stable.

    Replacements made: A chip on the apron was re-glued at an earlier time and the pair have been re-upholstered also at an earlier time. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses.
