About The Maker

Cauv Design

CAUV Design is a Brooklyn based modern furniture company started and run by designer / maker Joseph Cauvel. His designs are primarily expressed in forms of metals, woods, and cementitious materials along with glass and stone at times. Joseph views furniture as interactive interior architecture for our everyday lives, and believes it should both function and inspire us at every angle. Beyond striving to utilize materials harvested with sustainable methods and sourcing many materials within his neighborhood or borough he also looks to give back when possible. A portion of every sale is put toward planting trees in our national forests to ensure a long lasting green space for future generations. All wood surfaces are finished in a all natural hard wax/oil manufactured in the USA and many other finishes are either low or zero VOC. Craftsmanship and a great work ethic are elements Joseph learned organically growing up in NW Pennsylvania. His family tree is filled with various hard working tradesmen that have shaped him into the person and maker he is today. From his life’s relationships and various experiences, he has gathered skills and knowledge in his head and hands, and sees designing and making as ways of consistently testing, improving and expressing himself.
