About

Klint was a mastermind of design, named Honorary Royal Designer for Industry by London's Royal Society of Arts. He was known, and most proud, of his analytical work and the meticulous studies that he conducted for the use and functionality of the pieces he designed. Often he used historical models for his research. After one such study of a late 18th century chair English armchair, he was so enthusiastic that he made only minor adjustment to the sides and back and fabricated it almost directly from the original drawings. It was his dream to preserve the old but " organize" it in a modern sensibility. This is true of Klint’s Berger chair. He chose to construct the frame in Cuban Mahogany like many of his pieces but with inlays of rosewood veneer. The sides, back and seat are made with hand woven cane with the addition of loose removable down filled cushions. Klint was overjoyed with the discovery of the 18th century model of this chair but we think that he perfected it.
