Midcentury Armchairs in White Leather & Iron Base by Carlo Hauner, 1955, Brazil

Available today, this Brazilian Modern armchair in brown leather & iron, by Carlo Hauner, in Brazil during the 1950s is one of a kind! The popular design (at the time) follows the same pattern as the also popular “Concha” armchairs from Carlo Hauner and features an intricate steel base with a soft curved, re-upholstered brown leather seat which is very comfortable. This model was produced indoors, being upholstered in leather or outdoors using either a woven cotton fiber called “Sinzal” or colorful spaghetti chords. Available today, this Mid-Century Modern armchair set in beige leather & hardwood designed by Joaquim Tenreiro in 1955 is a showstopper. Full stop. The stately pair consists of a hardwood structure with ebonized feet, spring seat and backrest in leather. Both pieces have the "Tenreiro Arquitetura de Interiores SA" seal under the seat which can be seen by opening the zipper underneath the seat (as seen in the pics). The armchairs are very wide, making them not only super rare but very comfortable. These Brazilian Modern gems effortlessly flex into any Mid-Century Modern, modern, Danish modern or contemporary environment. This piece would also look wonderful in a boho chic, or Hollywood Regency styled home or office as well. During the restoration process, both armchairs where dissembled to understand their condition and to restore them following Tenreiro’s technique. Part of the process is shown in the last few images. Back in the fifties, most of the high-end furniture was created as special requests by wealthy patrons. As such, this is the case of this set that belonged to a private residence in Teresopolis, a well-known city for modernist architecture, two hours away from Rio de Janeiro. Available today, this spectacular set of two Mid-Century Modern armchairs with stools in cane and iron attributed to Carlo Hauner is nothing less than gorgeous. The armchairs feature a steel structure with four legs, tall backrest, curved seat and wide armrests with caning finish. Each armchair comes with a stool. The four pieces are sold as a set. The cane and steel are in the original condition and look awesome together. The set was designed in the fifties as outdoor furniture but a sculptural set as this could equally look great indoors. Available today, this Brazilian Modern “Jangada” lounge chair with stool in hardwood & leather by Jean Gillon designed in the 1960s is absolutely gorgeous! The chair's name, "Jangada," was named after the small rustic fishing boats used by fishermen along the northern coast of Brazil. The “purplish” tone of the wood chair contrasts nicely with the iconic caramel leather upholstery, adding to its luxurious and elegant appearance. The upholstery took three months to make and was done by some of the best upholsters in Rio de Janeiro following Gillon’s upholstery methodology (as is showcased in the vintage publications attached). Remains of the manufacturing seal can be seen in the wood base. The nets are new. Very rare set of "Rodeio" lounge chairs designed by Jean Gillon for Italma in the 1960’s. The lounge chair structure is made of solid Jacaranda (Brazilian rosewood) and features the characteristic bend leg ends. The Jacaranda has been refinished and displays beautiful patterns characteristic of old Jacaranda. The cushions are supported by new leather straps and have been re-upholstered in black leather by one of Brazil’s finest upholsters. This lounge chairs are not only strikingly beautiful but very comfortable. A set like this will be a center piece in any living room and for avid collectors an absolute must.
