Pair 19th Century French Renaissance Barley Twist Armchairs ~ Fauteuils

About the Item

Pair 19th Century French Renaissance Barley twist armchairs ~ Fauteuils will make a stylish yet comfortable addition to any room! Crafted from solid fruitwood, each features boldly arched seat backs carved with shell and acanthus foliate, and an interesting half-moon cutout that facilitates grasping the chair from the rear to tilt it up slightly, allowing it to be easily moved about the room on the rollers at the tips of the front legs. Back to the seat back crown, the shoulders end in scrolls which appear atop clockwise and counter-clockwise barley twist uprights that are affixed to the generously sized and fully padded armrests tipped with smiling lion's heads. The lion's heads rest atop boldly scrolled supports carved with acanthus plumes, but the remainder of the framework below continues the barley twist theme with solid sturdy plinth blocks into which each turning is doweled. Very recently upholstered in a very high quality fabric that remains in very good condition, they are poised to provide pleasure to you and your family for decades to come! Circa 1870s Each measures 43.5H x 24W x 22D; seat 18H.
