About the Item
Find here a set of Alfred Hendrickx S6L chairs, that has become difficult to find here in Belgium. It was first presented with other Belform furniture in 1958 at the world expo in Brussels.
The design and construction of this chair is thoughtful made. The frame consists of 4 connected parts that come smoothly together. It must have taken a lot of precision and expert craftsmanship to build these chairs at the time they were made. When you look at this chair the armrests are very present and slightly carved outwards on both sides which gives the chair an elegant look.
A. Hendrickx stood out with his collection of Belgian furniture design, and delivered for Belform many beautiful designs that went into production from the early fifties until the early 70s. He made designs that challenged Belgian design in form, material and production.
I always appreciated the work of Alfred Hendrickx and through the years I noticed more people do this as well.
I’m always very pleased to find furniture from Alfred Hendrickx and to be more precise, collectors know that the S6-L is very difficult to find, especially with the lower back, and as a pair they come up occasionally on the market.
This pair of low backrest chairs are reupholstered in a deep, bright red fabric and are refurbished with a new foam. Together with Sophie of @covercouch we looked for a fabric that kept close to the original one, so the chairs kept their original value. Both chairs stand in a very good and clean condition, a beautiful patina has gained through the years.
