- Amsterdam School Armchairs in Original Upholstery, Art Deco, Dutch Modern, 1940sLocated in Antwerp, BE1940's, Dutch Modern, Lounge Chair, Amsterdamse school, Armchair, Art Deco, Expressionism, Jugendstil. Dutch modern set of six chairs of Amsterdamse school. The original upholstery creates an authentic quality. The Amsterdam School is famous for its architecture, both in the Netherlands and internationally. However, the school’s spectacular designs for the interior are less well-known. In the early 1900s, the Amsterdamse School designers radically transformed the applied arts. The survey encompasses over 500 objects and is the fruit of many years of research, and an appeal for help in tracing items related to the movement. The search for objects led to the discovery of numerous designs now in private hands like this piece. With its expressive and rich forms, the Amsterdam School (1910-1930) is unique in the Netherlands. The movement not only consisted of architecture but also included designs for furniture, lamps, clocks, ceramics, and textile. The style was taken up by all disciplines, particularly graphic design, in which a relatively large number of women were active, including Tine Baanders and Fré...Category

- Office Cane Chairs by Pierre Jeanneret, PJ-SI-28-A, Chandigarh, 1955By Pierre JeanneretLocated in Antwerp, BEIconic "Office Cane Chairs" created by Pierre Jeanneret in the 1950s for the city of Chandigarh in India, the utopian city designed by his cousin Le Corbusier. Made of solid wood with seat and backrest in braided canework. Tilted backrest and asymmetric flat profiled "compass"-type double side leg assembly, with the legs connected by a crosspiece and supporting the armrests. Slanted, slightly curved backrest, separate from the seat. The seemingly floating back as well as the "compass"-type legs are very typical for this office chair. These specific features make the design even more powerful and interesting. The office chair was part of the furniture from the administrative buildings of Chandigarh. It's a true icon, one of the most famous pieces of all Chandigarh items. Jeanneret’s designs stand out for their essential forms and simple materials, a balance between modern European ideals and traditional Indian spirit. Another interesting and nowadays relevant fact about these and other Chandigarh chairs is that all pieces were made from the trees which were logged because the city was built, so an early adaptation of ecological thinking. We have four office chairs...Category
