Italian design refers to all forms of design in Italy, including interior design, urban design, fashion design and architectural design. Italy is recognized as being a worldwide trendsetter and leader in design: the architect Luigi Caccia Dominioni claims that "Quite simply, we are the best" and that "We have more imagination, more culture, and are better mediators between the past and the future".[1] Italy today still exerts a vast influence on urban design, industrial design, interior design, and fashion design worldwide.[1] Generally, the term "design" is associated with the age of the Industrial Revolution, which arrived in Italy during the pre-unification in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, in this context, was born on Italian design and development in various fields such as silks San Leucio and workshops Pietrarsa, shipyards of Castellammare di Stabia. The rest of Italy was characterized by fragmented political and geographical condition however industrialization was significantly present in other pre-unitary States like Grand Duchy of Tuscany and Sardinia-Piedmont. After the Unification of Italy, despite the slow consolidation of the cotton industry and factories, the industrialization of the country was seldom talked about prior to 1870-80. At the beginning of the twentieth century formed the first great Italian designers such as Vittorio Ducrot and Ernesto Basile.

  • Alberto Rosselli Saporiti Italia Post Modern Confidential Club Lounge Chairs MCM
    By Alberto Rosselli Saporiti
    Located in Dayton, OH
"Iconic pair of Fratelli Saporiti Italia Confidental lounge, library or club arm chairs by Alberto Rosselli, circa 1970s. One of the first modular club chairs with a puzzle like cushion connection creating a pivotal look. Provenance : Jerome Schottenstein Estate, Columbus Ohio. Jerome was was an American entrepreneur and philanthropist, co-founder of Schottenstein Stores Corp. The Schottenstein family were Lithuanian immigrants who began an extensive business empire in the late 19th Century. Schottenstein Stores owns stakes in DSW and American Signature Furniture; American Eagle Outfitters, retail liquidator SB360 Capital Partners, over 50 shopping centers, and 5 factories producing its shoes and furniture. It also holds an ownership interest in American Eagle Outfitters, Wehmeyer in Germany, Cold Stone Creamery and The Mazel Company. Since 1950, Saporiti Italia produces some of the most sophisticated and advanced pieces of furniture of the history of Italian design. There is a leit motiv in all the company's creations: each new piece is history in itself. Catching time off balance and anticipating the future are both the challenge and the vocation of Saporiti Italia. Each item created and constructed by the company is slightly ahead of its time and it is destined to last, both in form and function, until the next era. The company, founded in 1950 by Mr. Sergio Saporiti and still under control of the Saporiti family, has contributed to the creation of milestones in the history of Italian design. During these decades of fast growing economy and fast changing social environment, Saporiti Italia set its particular international and avant-garde style. The first pieces of furniture of the Saporiti of the times were clearly influenced by emerging Scandinavian design, but with a special touch of Italian elegance in the use of finishing and materials. In 1965 Sergio Saporiti started a fruitful and “scientific” collaboration with one of the masters of Italian architecture and design of all times: Alberto Rosselli. Together they created a series of pieces of furniture – the Jumbo chair...
