About the Item

Superb and very rare set of eight 'Pamplona' dining chairs by Italian master designer Augusto Savini for Pozzi, Italy 1965. The Pamplona chair has a refined sculptural form reminiscent of the elegant forms and detailing created by Italian master architect Carlo Scarpa. Please see the refined stainless steel connector detailing etc. Furthermore these are the very rare, early period luxury option chairs with factory applied 'amaranto' stained varnish over high quality Ash wood frames with real leather seats and backrests. All the chairs have had their upholstery fully restored including new foam and new high quality leather by our in house upholstery atelier. The luxury artisan production rosewood and stained ashwood options are very rarely seen as most Pamplona chairs were produced by Pozzi in the cheaper painted finish (white, red or green) with matching colored fabric upholstery to suit the pop exuberance of the middle to late 1960s period. To find a set of eight chairs in the same leather and stained ash wood finish is a rare find. Please note that these eight savini chairs are from two different and original production runs and hence due to their artisan production four of the chairs have very slightly different overall dimensions to the other four . This would not be noticeable at all if four matching dimension chairs are placed on opposite sides of a dining table from the other set of four matching dimension chairs. Overall Dimensions : 4 chairs measure : 22.45" Wide X 20.86" Deep X 28.15" High ; Seating height 17.72". Armrest height 26.38". OR 57 cm Wide x 53 cm Deep x 71.5 cm high; seating height 45 cm; armrest height 67 cm. The other 4 chairs measure: 22.45" wide X 20.08" deep X 27.56" high ; Seating height 17.72". Armrest height 25.6". OR 57cm wide x 51cm deep x 70 cm high; seating height 45cm; armrest height 65cm. We may be prepared to sell these chairs as two sets of four chairs of exactly matching dimension but we would prefer to sell them as a set of eight chairs with the slight differences in overall dimensions as discussed since the differences are so minor. Wright in Chicago sold a set of 12 rosewood and leather Pamplona chairs for over $52000 (see lot 270, 8th December, 2009).
