Vintage Circa 1950s Leather and Oak “Safari” Arm Chair by Wilhelm Kienzle

About the Item

LEATHER AND OAK "SAFARI" CHAIR Wilhelm Kienzle, designed 1928, manufactured circa 1950-60 Item # 301XUJ28D-3 Designed in 1928 by Wilhelm Kienzle, the "Safari" chair stands out as an exquisite and iconic creation. This particular example was manufactured in the 1950s/1960s in Germany and it is skillfully constructed using solid oak. The chair features a seating arrangement made of rawhide leather slings affixed with belting, the worn and glowing result showcasing a timeless elegance. The leather itself boasts a captivating patina, the surface history of stains and oils accumulated over many years of use recording its travels and use over time. Perhaps most surprising is the comfort of the chair, which totally conforms to your body and (in my opinion) places pressure in all of the right places. It was designed to be totally disassembled for easy transport. Remaining in its original and untouched state, this chair represents a remarkable fusion of ingenious design, exceptional craftsmanship, and unparalleled comfort and support. We may have three of these chairs available, but only one is en suite to this specific example. Obtained as part of a set from a client in Germany, it presents an excellent opportunity to acquire a perfect pair. Should you desire to locate this corresponding chair, kindly search for item #301XUJ28D-2, or alternatively, don't hesitate to contact us directly for further details. Measurements: 35 3/8" H x 22 1/4" D x 22 1/4" W x 14 1/2" H to seat Condition Report: All original hardware and leather, the leather stained and discolored with a wonderful overall patina, remarkably comfortable and most enjoyable to sit in; light wear to the oak surface; rubbing and wear to the leather inside the back where the wing nuts attach; some dryness and cracking to the leather belting, especially the front belt. One of the belts under the seat with a rivet repair where a tear formed.
