French wooden rustic country armchair from the late 19th century with straight legs, organically shaped armrests and a lift-up seat. The armrests connect the back to the rectangular seat. The boxed seat can be opened to reveal a storage compartment. With its remarkable patina, the design reminds us of the wabi-sabi philosophy which centres around the appreciation of the beauty of natural imperfection. The idea involves the understanding that everything ages with grace, and becomes more beautiful as it breaks, fades, or scars. It is the understanding that old and worn out things have their own elegant charm.
This particular armchair dates from 1872, as indicated by the marking on the backrest bar. The simplicity of the lines, combined with its remarkable woodworking and craftsmanship, will allow this French armchair to bring a touch of authenticity to any home.
