19th Century Dutch Oak Two Way Flip Backrest Bench, Strycsitten, Banc a Tournis

About the Item

Imagine this pretty little 19th century oak bench in a kitchen, a hallway or on the patio. It can be used from both sides by flipping the backrest, these flip benches are also known as Banc à tournis or Strycsitten. These benches were very popular in small houses in front of a fireplace. Warm up facing the fire, and when you were warm enough and it was time to dine, flip the backrest and face the table. It is in good sturdy used condition, this 'used' look gives it the right character, the bench is ready to be very functional again.
