Admani bench by Pendhapa Dimensions: D 126 x W 45 x H 42 cm Materials: Solid black javanese teak, Hand loom Silk Weight: 60 kg The vision behind our collaboration with Helena Bajaj Larsen is one of merging and honouring aesthetic and heritage standpoints hailing from diverse global perspectives. It is the coming together of an architectural design studio and a textile fashion studio. Our collaboration is anchored in space, touch and interaction and manifests itself through both its structural and spatial qualities. Our first piece is intended as a physical object that would bring people together - a point of convergence in a circulatory space: a bench fit for a few individuals to gather, converse, observe. We designed the bench as a central piece in the spirit of dissolving the boundaries between product and architecture, fabric and surface, object and space. Pendhapa Atelier is here acting as the creative engineer behind the structure of the product. Their design for the bench is conceived as “plateau” to support and showcase the artwork and craftsmanship present in the fabric by HBL. The plateau is divided by two asymmetric arcs making the experience of the bench different from each angle. The fabric is entirely hand-painted and is made of pure handloom Indian raw silk We are Atelier Pendhapa, an architecture, furniture and research design practice that seeks innovative form rooted in timelessness. Based between Singapore, Jakarta, London and Paris, Atelier Pendhapa is engaged in projects across Europe and South-East Asia since 2019. Founded by Antonin Hautefort and Ignatio Tenggara, Pendhapa seeks a holistic approach to the practice of architecture with the ambition to dissolve the boundaries between site, product and architecture. Antonin and Ignatio founded Pendhapa Atelier together in 2019. While Antonin grew up in France, Ignatio comes from Indonesia. It is partly their radically different cultural background, partly their fascination for local craftsmanship that motivated them to build an enterprise together. Both architects by training, they met at the Architectural Association in London while completing their master of Architecture. Prior to starting Pendhapa Atelier, Antonin and Ignatio were both part of international architectural design practices on projects in the USA, the UK, France, South Africa, and Singapore.
