Antique French Louis XVI Neoclassical Upholstered Painted Armbench~Vanity Bench
About the Item
Antique French Louis XVI Neoclassical Upholstered Painted Armbench ~ Vanity Bench possesses enough classical design and embellishment to be the epitome of the movement! The upholstery was designed to be neutral yet comfortable, with firmly stuffed seat and padded armrests, even upholstered side panels. The framework, however, steals the show with a wide variety of designs and embellishments that are truly timeless. Rosettes appear atop the cornerposts, which also feature tapered, spiral fluted central columns mounted to upturned laurel urns. Blocks and turnings transition the cornerposts down to the seat level, commencing with a rosette carved in both directions, connected to an apron that is lavished with spiral ribbon, egg & dart, and suspended laurel garlands for a stunning wraparound effect. Support is provided by tapered and fluted columns topped with anthemion caps with urn-shaped feet tips. The painted finish accentuates the meticulously detailed carving, and has achieved a lovely patina over the passing decades.
