About

Contemporary American furniture maker Carter Hopkins' Khafra Bench was made in 2015. This handcrafted sapele wood bench was designed and made with form and function in mind. The seating is curved to create a perfect seating for two while it's leather wrapped handles emphasizes its handmade esthetic. Carter is influenced by the natural beauty of botanical forms, the line and repetition of boat building practices, the innovation and craftsmanship of furniture, and the spontaneity of sculpture. Each piece explores his devotion to furniture making and its role in his process of sketching, drawing, designing, and creating work. All pieces are accompanied with a "Certificate of Authenticity" and/or signed. Carter Hopkins is a furniture designer from Rochester, NY with an MFA in furniture design from Rochester Institute of Technology. His work is innovative and fresh, utilizing technology and technique. It is founded in a style that is traditional and practical. In January 2018, Carter auctioned his 2017 Niche Award finalist Shell Chair in Sotheby's New York “Maker + Place Presents: Contemporary Objects Online" curated by textile artist Michaela Carpenter. Carter is currently a permanent resident and teacher of Digital Fabrication at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Colorado.
