    A rare and impressive hall bench / settle from Moreton Hall in Lancashire United Kingdom, circa 1830s. Made of oak featuring serpentine hand carved form with lion passant holding an acorn, heavy acanthus leaf foliate and swags. The bench showcases impressive dog bone arms with ornate scrolling. The seat is supported by robust legs carved throughout with scrolled foot over plinth. The settle is a true masterpiece! Included with the bench is an original antique oil painting of the great house. The painting is by Harry Bloomfield (1883-1941) Moreton Hall, Whalley, was situated on the lower slopes of Whalley Nab, off the road from Whalley towards Accrington (now the A680) about a quarter of a mile from Portfield Bar and just over a mile South-South-East of Whalley.
