About the Item
The Onix bench is our reinterpretation of the famous bank in front of the houses of the Transylvanian village. The bench, also called "laita", was built manually by the villagers from wood fallen in the forest. It was used to socialize with family and friends in the hot summers in Romania.
At Carel Woodworks, we wanted to preserve this tradition by building the bench from solid oak of superior quality. Upholstered cushions were added to provide extra comfort, and the multiple legs were the inspiration for the name Onix from the famous Japanese Pokemon franchise.

Carel Woodworks is a woman owned family business, making bespoke solid wood furniture in our state of the art factory near the Carpathians mountains of Transylvania.
The company was founded by Elena Birtoc and Carlos Zamorano in 1999 and is a member of the governing board of the Association of Romanian Furniture Manufacturers (APMR).
Using reclaimed and FSC certified wood, our passion is to create timeless heirlooms that enhance the spaces they are in, incorporating all the details required for functionality and style.
