1930s Italian Bench
By Pier Luigi Colli
Located in New York, NY
This 1930s Italian bench is so over-scaled, and monumental in appearance, that it seems to have been made for the large room it was destined, rather than the comfort of a typical sitter. As such, it would function equally well as a low side table or a high cocktail table. We’ll allow the buyer to determine its use. The designer was Pierluigi Colli, and the fabricator Martinotti, the Turin furniture and interior decorating firm that was established in 1831, and exhibited at the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition and the 1904 St Louis World’s Fair. Colli’s family owned a textile company that supplied Martinotti with upholstery fabrics, suggesting nepotism had something to do with his being hired as the firm's director in 1926. Nevertheless, he proved himself worthy as a designer and a businessman. Having studied in Paris at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs, he befriended leading French designers, and arranged for Martinotti to retail Lalique glass and Jean Perzel lighting. In addition, the quality of their work, and Colli’s dedication to the modern design movement, prompted Carlo Mollino, Gio Ponti, and Gino Levi-Montalcini, among others, to have Martinotti fabricate some of their furniture. Colli’s claim to fame, however, is his own work as a designer, and his ability to master the vocabularies of every trend from Art Deco to midcentury modern. During the Great Depression, when nearly every nation floundered economically, fascist Italy...

Contemporary Lock Bench in Black Oak
Located in London, GB
Lock, the first series of Kolektt is based on the idea of joining one single form to another. In principle, two L-shaped pieces of different sizes create balance by interlocking. The linear form, which is striking at first glance, and its holistic stance consisting of one single solid material, give ‘Lock, a sculptural attitude. Launched with two different materials, wood and metal, the collection is also inspired by the material itself and the manufacturing process. Produced entirely from solid oak wood. Characterized by contrast dying. Since wood is a natural material, wood grains may differ from the product in the image. Materials: Solid Oak Available colors/finishes or customizations: - cerused black oak...

Art Deco Italian Bench With Fabric Dedar Velvet Devorè
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Refined Italian Art Deco bench with solid walnut structure at the ends of which there are two strong black lacquered wooden boards that work as a base, the velvet cushion is perfectly housed in the structure then removable (see photo); the bench was made in an artisan workshop in Lissone (Monza-Brianza-Italy) between 1930 and 1935 (the area of Lissone has always been famous for the production of high-quality carpentry); the craftsmen were inspired by the desire to create an object of limited size with strong and simple lines and have given the bench a timeless elegance; its design plays between austerity and rigor and its exasperated linearity gives the object a dynamic and elegant character. The bench has recently been handed over to an old master craftsman of Prato, who has handmade with skill and precision the new cushion cover; we want to remind you that the city of Prato is considered the largest textile center in the world, its craftsmen and companies, highly specialized, are a reference point for creativity, quality and excellence. The Master used a fabric, with an original and innovative pattern and color, very particular and important: the strong velvet with the Devorè technique of the Dedar collection, one of the most expensive and exclusive products of the company's range. The Devorè style, also known as "burn out style", is a technique, introduced in the twenties of the twentieth century, which chemically eliminates one of the fibers used in weaving, according to a precise design; Devorè printing is one of the most fascinating types of printing that allows obtaining fabrics otherwise not feasible, such as velvet operated that is “velvet devorè...
