About the Item

Tapiovaaras Pirkka Bench re-visited. Brass feet added to give extra heights to the original low design, rounded corners to avoid the varied production and to give the work singularity, hand painted black stripes on the edges, lacquered with glossy organic varnish. Arka Armchair from Designer Yngve Ekström 1913 - 1988, contemporized by adding a handcarved olive tree branch in the backrest, brass feet added, hand painted. This piece is a good example for Staabs re-works which represent contemporary functional art. A multi produced Classic reworked to be a single piece and a sign of modern times where recycle and reclaimed material are more than important for the upcoming generations. • born 1964 in Aschaffenburg, Germany • since 1986 active as a visual artist • since 1989 national and international exhibitions • since 2010 work with functional art Furniture has been with us almost since the beginning of time, not just for practical purposes, but as an expression of derivation, of religion, of hierarchy or as objects of utility. Functional pieces has served each one of us since childhood and surround us every day without adequate perception. Through my work I alter existing, already used furniture into unique and individual objects. Mass-produced and homogenous pieces transubstantiated into singular and unique workings by employing original craftsmenship and design as the basis. Sustainability, reclamation and loyalty are cornerstones for my contemporary but atemporal, classic but modern furniture. I am particularly interested to give value to overlooked, already used and well matured pieces. I endow the work with new meaning, different assignation, changed look and contemporary feeling by re-assembling, cutting, spraypainting and lacquering them to preserve the original character.
