French Louis XVI Style Bergère Armchair with Distressed Fabric
About the Item
Design elements of this 19th century square-back, distressed silk upholstered armchair relate to the larger "bergère à oreilles" (with ears) within which the sitter is enclosed by upholstered arms topped with “wings.” Developed to be placed in front of a fire, its particular shape meant to keep the sitter warm by protecting him or her from chilling drafts. This particular chair has hand carved and painted wood structure with Louis XVI style neoclassical details of florals and fluted legs. The original silk upholstery is in rough condition, and can either be replaced for use, or kept for the "heavily distressed" decorative look.
