Jens Nielson chair
A rare mid-century two-part Jens Nielson for Westnofa' Laminex' beech two-part folding chair is for sale. Made in Norway in 1966, Nielson made the chair from rosewood stained laminated Beech. The Laminex chair comprises two cleverly fitted panels that can be easily disassembled and reassembled providing a comfortable seat with a unique, stylish sculptural design.
Jen Nielson was Danish, born in 1937, and while there is not much information about him, there's little doubt the 'Laminex' chair was an outstanding achievement. The Westnofa furniture company was the most successful in Norway at that time.
The name comes from a combination of West Norway Factories = Westnofa. The company was founded in the late 1950s by a group of top furniture manufacturers. The purpose was to pool resources to market and export locally made furniture worldwide.
Many designers worked with Wesnofa to make attractive and sought after furniture lines using highly curved laminated wood in the 1960s and 1970s. The furniture could easily be flat packed and shipped at a minimal cost to discerning buyers from all over the world. The designs were fresh, modern, and possessed a lightness of form that traditional furniture makers rarely attain.
