AKMD Aram Cast Aluminum-Frame Lounge Chair
About the Item
The AKMD Aram Cast Aluminum-frame Lounge Chair is a versatile seating solution that offers exceptional comfort. The frame is lightweight cast aluminum, but the broad footing and metal frame means it isn't blowing over in a gentle breeze. At 30" wide, the back and seat are broad and gently curved for an informal seating posture. This brand-new design shows off its mid-century curves while letting you dictate the finishes to blend well with any other pieces.
We've shown this here in a hammered black powder-coat finish upholstered with a textile sourced from one of our favorite fabric specialists in Chicago.
This chair can be finished in an almost unlimited variety of powder coat colors, brass or nickel plated. Upholstery in a variety of fabrics, padding and batting and may be customized using the customers' own material (COM.) Custom finishes other than shown may require a charge for setup, custom colors, polishing, finishing and fabric.
Founded in 2011, AKMD developed out of a thirteen-year friendship and design collaboration between Ayush Kasliwal and Mike Dreeben.
The two met in Jaipur, India in 1998: Dreeben had recently completed an MFA in sculpture at the University of Chicago and was working on a Fulbright grant, studying vernacular woodworking; Kasliwal had just completed study at the prestigious National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, with a degree in furniture design. What they found was a mutual interest in fine craft practices and how these could inform contemporary design. This has become a driving concept behind the AKMD collection.
Both Kasliwal and Dreeben are makers and their design approach begins with a deep understanding of the inherent characteristics of material and of production method — allowing process to drive design, rather than the other way around. Their work is pragmatic and honest: the materials are presented straightforwardly, as are the mechanical connections that bind the pieces together. Their furniture is notably free of veneer and plastics, that don't provide the kind durability that one can expect from solid wood, cast metal, or saddle leather And although everything they offer is meticulously crafted, their pieces are comfortable and unfussy — pieces that you can live with, that will respond positively to use and age by developing a patina that reflects their history in one's home.

Marble carving has been practiced in Rajastan since at least the 7th century. Marble was known as the 'royal stone' and carvers used it to construct tombs, palaces, and temples. The Taj Mahal is composed entirely of white marble.
Marble is a metamorphic rock that forms when limestone is subjected to heat and pressure in the Earth. It is composed primarily of the mineral calcite (CaCO3) and often contains other minerals, such as mica, quartz, pyrite, iron oxide, and graphite.
Marble is a rock resulting from metamorphism of sedimentary carbonate rocks, most commonly limestone or dolomite (rock). Metamorphism causes variable recrystallization of the original carbonate mineral grains. white marble is the result of metamorphism of a very pure (silicate-poor) limestone or dolomite protolith.
