About the Item
Beautiful Lobi chair from Burkina Faso, West Africa. This is a rare piece of African furniture both sculptural and usable. The entire piece is hand carved out of a single block of wood with lovely patina. Full dimensions; Back rest 28" high x 19.5" long x 8" wide x 7" high. We only source the best, circa 1950
This Lobi chair was sourced in the spirit of Wabi Sabi, a Japanese philosophy that beauty can be found in imperfection and impermanence. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. A beauty of things unconventional. It is the opposite of vulgarity. The costs of achieving this kind of minimalism are seemingly inconsistent with its mission of aesthetic humility. This kind of luxury is for a select few: The Emperor of Japan had a Wabi garden. Wabi is for people who already have a lot.
