About the Item

Chiavari brass chair, needle point seat with high back,1950`s ca, Italian. This vintage chair has been thoroughly cleaned respecting the vintage patina; It is ready to use. This elegant vintage Chiavari chair is in solid brass and has a unique handmade needle point seat. In addition, it`s high back sets it apart from other brass chairs of similar design which are usually smaller. Together the seat & high back give character to this decorative chair. This Neoclassical design would suit a range of interiors such as Art Deco, Mid-Century Modern, Hollywood Regency, 70`s Glamour, Traditional, Industrial or Contemporary. The solid brass frame has a significant weight and detail, both of which are signs of quality. The front spindle legs have a balustrade form finishing at the bottom to a point & pod. The back legs run continuously upward to make the `stile` of the chair insuring strength. The stiles are joined together at the top in a scalloped pattern. The back stiles & front spindle also have the balustrade form. The seat, is hand embroidered. The pattern is a ring of flowers with a posy of flowers in the centre, and the outside trimmed with cabling in a light green tone. There is a gold trim following the silhouette of the seat. The seat is removable, as it is screwed in the four corners of the frame underneath. The underside of the seat is finished well with black lining. Each solid brass leg has at the bottom the original vintage plastic stopper to protect the floor. The solid quality brass frame is strong and in very good condition and structural form. The original clear lacquer is present on the brass. Over time the brass has developed a warm antique tone which gives great character. The embroidered seat is in very good condition. Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. The frame would be bubble wrapped and would fit nicely into a box for shipping. Additional dimensions: The Height of the seat from the floor is: 45 cm. CHIAVARI CHAIR HISTORY - Chiavari chairs are named for the Italian city where they originated. This little town in the north of Italy began producing these chairs at the beginning of the 19th Century. In 1807, Gaetano Descalzi designed a light, elegant, yet solid, cherry wood chair known as `Chiavarine`. The design was based on the Louis XV panel-back side chair however without the back upholstery. The chair eventually waltzed from the dining room to the ballroom. In 1953, the Kennedy’s used Chiavari chairs at their wedding, sealing the chair’s fate in history. Chiavari chairs particularly in solid brass could easily complement and add a touch of glamour to any interior design scheme.
