Franck Evennou, Club, Bronze Side Chair, France, 2000

About the Item

Franck Evenou's "Club" chair is a piece that unites striking symmetry with a focus on the curved line. The chair's four hand-hammered legs bow out from the corners of plump square seat and terminate with flared and accented feet; its back balances this strong base with a grill of twisted bronze, and is crowned with twin ornaments. Edition Galerie Avant-Scène Incised: F.E.

Franck Evennou has a poetic language inspired by nature, and by all subjects that carry the residue of their pasts. His works, particularly in bronze, possess a powerful nostalgic quality, capturing in sculptural permanence the ephemeral beauty of a faint memory or a story half-forgotten. An aesthetic bridge between Evennou's earlier work and his newer pieces in bronze, this set of three conjoining ottomans, set upon triangular feet...

He uses the language of matter to re-invent a poetic form inspired by nature and transforms materials that bear the mark of time, with a mixture of nostalgia and respect for the past. He applies his art to a limitless range of creations: Sculpture, furniture, decorative objects, jewelry. They function as a pretext for him to express his ideas in dream-like and organic forms. His preferred materials are wood and bronze of different patinas ranging from gold to brown. His working method is artisanal and traditional, and each piece is not only limited, but also numbered and signed. He is represented by the Galerie Avant-scène in Paris. Their collaboration has led to the creation of numerous pieces for collectors and embassies, including notable works such as the monumental gate...
