A pair of chairs Swedish model

About the Item

A pair of Gustavian chairs, often appointed as the "Swedish model" made in Stockholm around 1790. They are hand carved in shapes typical for the Gustavian period with floral and leaf motif at the back and seat frame. Beautifully tapered and fluted legs with rosettes on the corner posts. Really comfortable to sit in. Gustavian style was the leading style in Swedish architecture, decor and crafts during the Gustavian era, inspired by French Neoclassicism. The style was established in the 1780s. The period is named after King Gustav III of Sweden, who spent a great deal of time at Versailles in 1771. When he returned home to Sweden, he brought with him a love of French neoclassical style. Gustavian furnitures are very popular in especially England but also in France and in US.
