Set of Four Blue Restored Beech Armchairs by Mart Stam, Germany, 1930s

About the Item

Set of four blue restored beech armchairs by Mart Stam. Style: Bauhaus Designer: Mart Stam Period: 1930-1939 Source: Germany Material: Chrome-Plated Steel, Beech Plywood Our professional refurbishing team in Czechia has fully restored it according to the original process. Designed by Mart Stam, a renowned Dutch designer and architecht pivotal to midcentury design. Stam was a Dutch architect, urban planner, and furniture designer. Stam was extraordinarily well-connected, and his career intersects with important moments in the history of 20th century European architecture, including the invention of the cantilever tubular chair, teaching at the Bauhaus, contributions to the Weissenhof Estate, the Van Nelle Factory, (an important modernist landmark in Rotterdam), buildings. His design philosophy was inspired by both Functionalism and Scientific Communism, and his style of design is in line with the New Objectivity, an art movement formed during the depression in 1920s Germany, as a counter-movement and an out growth of Expressionism. This item features Classic Bauhaus design elements. Elements of this style are neutral colours, and occasional bright primary colours. Bauhaus designers avoided the fussy and pretentious, looking for clean, modern lines instead. Perfect for a timeless, yet modern look.

Range S 43 Simplicity that unfolds its effect everywhere: Mart Stam removed the back legs from furniture that for centuries had been created based on the same principles. Through evolutionary refinement, an object that simply looks good in any place where both understatement and quality are wanted. Stam achieved the greatest possible reduction with the cantilever chair S 43 by combining the tubular steel frame with moulded wood elements for seat and backrest. The pure, restrained form of this cantilever chair makes it an exemplary design in the spirit of modernism...
