Set of four Gastone Rinaldi 'Z' Chairs, Rima, Italy 1970s

About the Item

SOLD AS A SET OF FOUR Gastone Rinaldi (1920-2006) was a brilliant designer who also played football for AC Padua and AC Udinese in the 1940s. He took over RIMA, the metal furniture manufacturer founded by his father Mario Rinaldi, in 1948. His talent for design ultimately outshone his footballing skills and the pioneering furniture made by RIMA were internationally recognised. Examples of his work are now held in major collections including MoMA (the Museum of Modern Art) in New York City. His ‘Z’ chairs are a dynamic design that evoke the joyful optimism of the space age. An instantly recognisable classic, the chairs are constructed with a cantilever metal structure, and the examples on display here have been recently reupholstered in a gorgeous new textile: Pierre Frey Yeti in colour Cotton.
