Steel Tongue Chair by Bannavis Andrew Sribyatta for Pie Studios, 2000s

About the Item

A rare woven steel sculptural "Tongue Chair" by Bannavis Andrew Sribyatta, a sustainable designer from Miami, USA. Sribyatta was an architect and designer who studied at Pratt Univeristy and Columbia University. He was known for designing architecture and furniture, as well as working in interior design. Designers he was inspired by who are established in the industry such as Roberto Matta, Pierre Guariche, and Ron Arad. "The twist: almost everything he creates is sustainable. His installations combine earth-friendly materials and household waste thinking globally, designing locally. He can be considered one of the pioneers of sustainable furniture." This piece would look great in a gallery or museum setting. It is a great unusual piece of art that is a conversational piece. Great for the collector who has everything. You can sit on this chair, however, it is more of a piece of art than it is functional and we view it more as a "sculpture". Dimensions: 24" H x 32" W x 21" D. About the Artist: "An award-winning Miami / Bangkok based Architect/Designer with 17 years of experience in architecture, interior design, and furniture design. Mr. Sribyatta received his Bachelor's degree in Architecture from Pratt Institute, and Master of Architecture from Columbia University and had worked several years with eminent architectural firms in Los Angeles, New York, and Miami prior to opening his own practice in 2003. He had worked alongside the world-renowned French architect, Bernard Tschumi as a project architect for the Florida International University School of Architecture. He was also the project architect for Miami International Airport South Terminal responsible for the façade design and detailing. He was also involved in several winning competitions such as Port of Alicante Cruise Terminal in Spain, a 4 square mile waterfront development in Cameroon, Africa, and Redwood Townhouse development in Venice Beach, California to name a few. His work has been published in several world-renowned publications such as Architectural records, Metropolis Magazine, Interior Design Magazine, Time Magazine, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and the Miami Herald. Including documentaries film on Sustainable Design for The Sundance Channel, guest designer on HGTV channel, and California Gold with Huell Howser on PBS. Mr. Sribyatta has been invited to speak about his work throughout North America. Mr. Sribyatta continues his love for design by educating the future architect and interior designers as a professor at Florida International University, and Miami-Dade College for over 10 years. Beyond architecture and interior design, Mr. Sribyatta's vision on sustainable furniture design has brought him several international awards where his work became a permanent collection to the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, US National Design Museum-Smithsonian Institution, NYC, the Miami Science Museum, and the National Building Museum in Washington DC. He also received Design Award in 2 consecutive years from the Interior Design Magazine and been selected and exhibited at the Shelburne Museum in 2007 as the top 20 Green Designer. In his hometown, Bangkok Thailand Mr. Sribyatta has worked on projects ranging from low-rise condominiums, community malls, high-end boutique shops, restaurants, office complexes, and residential designs."
