Teak and Wicker Chair
About the Item
A teak chair, likely to have been made in France during the early 1950s.
The seat and back of this chair are wicker, woven around a steel frame which is fixed to the teak body of the chair. The curved wooden body is formed by several pieces of teak, which are connected to make the seat, back, and legs appear as though they are connected by a continuous piece of wood. The wooden frame tapers towards the top of the seat back, echoing the sharply tapered legs of the chair.
Whilst seemingly traditional in its wood and wicker construction, the materials paired with the curved and tapered design features of this piece express an affinity with similar modernist chairs of the period.
