Tripod Chair in Blue and Gray Resin, France 1970s

About the Item

This artisanal tripod chair is unique both visually and with regard to its material. Resin furniture of the 1970s are quite rare as most were made by hand, as mass production is almost impossible because of the qualities of the material. Resin is an umbrella term, and can look very differently depending on how it is used. Summed up, resin, at its most basic, is a substance that can be converted from a liquid to solid state, and in some cases, back and forth between the two. The resin furniture trend has been around for around a decade; however, this tripod chair is an early example of the artistic use of the material. The shape of this chair is equally interesting, with a quirky shape that could easily be called a sculpture as well. The half sphere, or hemisphere-shaped body has a welcoming and open design, and is gently tilted to accommodate the sitter. It is painted bright blue on the inside that pops against the rest of the body that has an earthly, greyish colour. The three legs supporting the hemisphere appear to “flow out” of the body, and have a very textural look. Thanks to this, this chair has an artistically rough and organic look that is in line with the many trends of the 1970s. With a playful design and artisanal production, this chair is sure to bring visual interest into any space. It can function as seating or as a sculpture, but either way, it is certain to become a focal point in any interior. Condition: In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use.
