TWO CORD CHAIRS BY JACQUES GUILLON, c. 1954
About the Item
Manufactured in 1954 by Modernart of Canada, Montreal and A.A. Sporting Goods Corporation, New York and Andreef Chairs, Connecticut.
"Jacques Guillon was a Royal Canadian Airforce Pilot before he studied architecture at McGill University in Montreal. He chose nylon cord to create the seat and back, a material first invented in 1939 for parachutes and towing glider planes."

“The architect Jacques Guillon’s cord chair is a near perfect balance of fragility and strength….The chair was shown at the 1954 Milan Triennale [a clear affinity with Gio Ponti designed furniture is evident]… and was licensed to a company that, not coincidentally, manufactured wooden tennis rackets.”
