Vintage Foldable Garden / Outdoor Chairs in Wood and White Canvas Boho Chic

About the Item

Originally introduced to the general public at the 1904 St. Louis exhibition, the "Tripolina" chair had already been patented by a Joseph Fendy all the way back in 1977; the original author of the design, however, is unknown. Its Italian name derives from the Northern African city of Tripoli, in Libya, where Italy had colonial settings in the first decades of the 20th century. The present two chairs, produced by Milanese brand Citterio, date to the 1980s and are a proof of how timeless the "Tripolina" is. They have a walnut frame with metal hinges that allow to fold and easily store them, and have canvas seats that can be easily removed (see last picture). The seats, in 100% cotton, can be machine washed as indicated in the original label. Both the frame and seats are signed Citterio. Overall conditions are very good and original.
