A Unique Antique Victorian Adjustable Chaise Lounge In Orange Fabric Known As The "Literary Machine" Manufactured By John Carter Of New Cavendish St London An adjustable reading and lounging couch, bearing makers white enamel label. Item is very well made and with wrought iron under carriage bearing substantial and sharp teeth. A real talking piece, would be ideal for a film, or theatrical use or for a home. Carter produced all manner of reading tables, chairs, couches, beds and bath chairs, many specifically aimed at wounded soldiers. Winning 20 gold medals and awards, Carter was maker to The Queen (Victoria), Prince of Wales and Emperors of Russia and Germany having gained a reputation for quality.
