About the Item

Beautiful chair with machined and curved metal frame Designer Gastone Rinaldi for Rima 1950’s Gastone Rinaldi was born in Padua in 1920, and graduated in accountancy from the Belzoni Institute. Initially he worked for the Rima company in Via Guido Reni in Padua, founded by his father Mario Rinaldi in 1916.In his work as a designer, he came into contact with many leading Italian designers, including Giò Ponti, Carlo Mollino, Alberto Rosselli, Franco Campo and Carlo Graffi, Michele De Lucchi and Marco Zanuso. In 1954 he won the Compasso d’Oro award with the DU30 chair produced by Rima.In 1974 he founded the company Thema in Limena. In 1981 his Dafne chair produced in 1979 received a mention at the Compasso d’Oro, as did the Aurora in 1981. The Saturno sofa is part of the prestigious collection of the MoMA Museum of Modern Art in New York.Rinaldi also had an intense sporting activity.Gastone Rinaldi died in Padua in 2006.

    Set two lounge chairs model EA 108 designer Charles Eames for Herman Miller production 1960s. Charles Eames began very early in life as a designer to the extent that he was employed, as early as age 14, in the workshops of the Laclede Steel Company. He studied architecture at Washington University in St. Louis. He proposed to his professors the study of the work of Frank Lloyd Wright but, at first dissuaded from his intent, was later expelled from the school on the grounds that-we read in the commentary of one of the professors-"his point of view was too modern." A great influence on him was Finnish architect Eero Saarinen, with whom he shared some professional experiences and became friends. In 1938, at the latter's invitation, he moved to Michigan, where he studied architecture at Cranbrook Academy of Art and later taught there, also becoming head of the Industrial Design department. In 1941 he won, with Eero Saarinen, the competition for MoMA in New York concerning "Organic Design in Home Furnishing." Their work showed a new way of conceiving wooden furniture, experimenting with the use of bentwood plywood, as done a few years earlier by Alvar Aalto.
