Horst Brüning Daybed in Original Black Leather and Chrome

About the Item

Horst Brüning for Kill International, daybed model 6915, chrome-plated steel, leather, Germany, 1960s This well-designed daybed shows a solid construction of delicate lines and round edges. Most remarkable is the minimalist chrome frame that holds the black leather mattress in a graceful manner. The thin chrome slats develop into the legs, creating a nearly floating appearance. This feature specializes the design and highlights the great craftsmanship. Nothing touches, nothing clashes, which gives this piece of furniture a completely peaceful yet strong expression. A piece like this will stand the test of time. Horst Brüning is a designer whose keys ideas are minimalism, functionality, durability and the spirit of the time. On the other hand, however, Brüning 's furniture is timeless. Brüning studied Architecture and Interior Design at the College of Graphic Arts in Hamburg until 1956. In 1963 he set up an architecture and design office in Stuttgart. During this period, Brüning encountered Kill International, Kill International is an established and famous manufacturer, who have also produced many designs by Preben Fabricius and Jörgen Kastholm. Brüning has also worked together with this architect duo. Please note that this item is in good, used condition.

  • Johannes Spalt 'Constanze' Sofa Daybed in Black Leather and Steel
    Located in Waalwijk, NL
Johannes Spalt for Wittmann, sofa or daybed, leather, chrome-plated steel, Austria, 1960s. This mid-century modern sofa is designed by the talented Austrian furniture designer Johannes Spalt. The design is characterized by a solid construction based on sharp lines and angular shapes noticeable in the body of the seat and the chromed steel base, underlining the clear structured design. The metal legs elevate the seat in a graceful way, which establish an open and more transparent look to the whole unit. The tufted seat with buttons is upholstered in black leather. As outcome, this creates more visual interest and adds a graphical touch to the quite simplistic design. By only one hand movement the 'Constance' transforms from a comfortable sofa to daybed. A very elegant and also nifty technique. Johannes Spalt (1920-2010) was a postwar Austrian architect. In 1952 he founded the collective "Arbeitsgruppe 4" together with Wilhelm Holzbauer, Friedrich Kurrent and Otto Leitner. Their ideas and designs are still a great example of Austrian architecture...

Johannes Spalt for Wittmann, 'Constanze' daybed or sofa, black leather, steel, Austria, 1960s This Austrian daybed named ‘Constanze’ is typical for Mid-Century Modern design from Austria. The tufted leather seat and back is constructed with a slick and clean metal frame. The elegant slim outwards tapered legs create an open feeling and give the sofa the needed air to come across less solid and robust. By only one hand movement, the piece turns from a comfortable sofa to a daybed. Johannes Spalt (1920-2010) was a postwar Austrian architect.
