Low Chinese Kang Table with Woven Top, c. 1850

About the Item

This handsome table is a prime example of traditional Chinese craftsmanship. The frame of the beautifully worn top is lined with a finely woven mat, carved clouds form spandrels on the apron, and the mortise and tenon joinery lend the piece an undeniable strength and integrity. For centuries this type of low, long table, often called a kang table, was used for eating, meditation, playing games, and sleeping. Additional dimensions: Table apron to floor: 14".
